Welcoming a sweet baby boy for his one month shoot in Washington, D.C. was a joy! At just 4 weeks old, this little guy was a perfect example of why it’s never too late to capture those precious newborn moments. While there is definitely some sense of urgency to get newborn photos (because they change so quickly), you will still get all those sweet snuggly photos at a few weeks old. So if you change your mind once your little one arrives, don’t be shy: reach out!
As a Silver Spring newborn photographer, let me assure you every baby and family’s timeline is unique. Beautiful memories can be made no matter their age. Whether you’re arriving in the studio 7 days postpartum or 4 weeks later. Like this one month shoot!
This little boy’s session was filled with tender moments, proving that “older newborns” still make the most adorable subjects.
The session began with classic family portraits, highlighting that undeniable deep bond between baby and parents. I’ll never get tired of witnessing and documenting that phenomenon!! The love in their eyes was undeniable as Dad held his son protectively and Mom kissed her baby’s tiny head. I captured every moment as a fellow parent, knowing full well that these times are fleeting.
Then, we moved on to solo portraits of the baby. Dressed in the coziest neutral-tone outfit with the sweetest little bear ears, he was simply irresistible. His peaceful expressions and little stretches were ADORABLE, to say the least. I think all of us were melting from cuteness!
Neutral backdrops and soft lighting helped bring the focus to his delicate features—those chubby cheeks, tiny fingers, and long eyelashes. Those are things I always try to capture in my newborn sessions. I know that soon enough, their little angel baby will be running around at the park, or starting their first day of school. And these quiet, still moments with their baby are something they will want to remember forever.
Another thing I love about photographing a one month shoot is the baby’s growing curiosity, and the subtle hints of personality are beginning to shine. This baby boy already had the sweetest look (when he wasn’t snoozing). His alert moments brought an added layer of charm to the session.
For parents considering a newborn session later than the traditional 5-14 day window, know that it’s completely possible to create magical portraits. With patience, planning, and the right approach, we can ensure you’ll have images that capture your baby’s essence at this beautiful stage of life.
This session serves as a wonderful reminder that there is no “wrong time” for newborn photography. Every stage of your baby’s journey is worth celebrating. If you’re in the Washington, D.C., or Silver Spring area and have been hesitating to schedule your session, let this be the sign you’ve been waiting for. Let’s create timeless memories together!
