Are you welcoming your first or newest little one into the world soon? First and foremost, congratulations! This is such an exciting and beautiful season of life, filled with countless beautiful memories waiting to be made. As a Silver Spring Newborn Photographer, I’ve been lucky enough to document so many beautiful families through the years. And, with that, comes so many learning experiences. One of the most frequently asked questions I get is when the best time for your newborn session is.
While this can be so different for each family and newborn, based on birth, healthy, safety and a few other things, there is a timeframe that generally works for most families.
When Is The Best Time For Your Newborn Session?
My general guideline is anywhere from 5 to 21 days after birth. Of course, the time is ultimately up to you. But, I’ve found that at this age your little one can still be safely posed and positioned, and usually they are still in that sleepy newborn stage.
This sweet baby was right in that window and looked beyond adorable! This newborn session was with a client that I had previously done maternity photos with. So much love for all of my returning clients!
Our main goal for the session was to recreate the epic images we captured in the maternity session, but this time with the baby and older siblings. This sweet family was so perfect and they loved their newest addition so well! It is always so fun and exciting to see older siblings with their youngest one. The way they hold and care for each other warms my heart to no end. Please don’t hesitate to include your older children in your newborn session. Not only will you have priceless memories of your newborn, but you’ll have memories of all your babies together.
So, when trying to decide on the best time for your newborn session, keep in mind the first 21 days when your little one is still a sleepy newborn. I am so excited for you and your growing family, and I know you will be the best parents.
