Birthday Cake Smash Session | Silver Spring, MD
When mom reached out asking for a consultation I knew right from the phone call we were going to have such a great time! She was super sweet and so exccited to capture this moment for her precious little man! When she came in to discuss the birthday cake smash session, she knew that she wanted a baby Yoda theme, but was happy to listen to my creative vision. I love when my clients trust me like that!
Ok, so mom wanted a baby Yoda theme, hmmmm…. My biggest challenge when planning a birthday cake smash session is keeping the theme classic. I never want my clients to look back on their images and think to themselves “why did we have such a cheesy setup?” The goal is to be classic, sweet and beautiful and still remain true to the clients wish.
I love getting into it, and planning a vision board with multiple options so that parents can really make it their own. Google, Pintrest and Etsy are definitly my friends when it comes to planning out birthday cake smash sessions. I had multiple cake, backdrop and outfit ideas for mom to choose from and then we put it all together to create this fabulous session!
My biggest challenge when planning this birthday cake smash session was the cake. We picked out a simple cake idea with an adorable topper, but none of my bakers were available to make the cake! Cue stress, big time! If you follow me on IG you know that I make fancy cakes for my kids when it’s their birthdays, so I ended up making the cake! It came out pretty cute and mom was happy, so score!
Fast forward to the day of the session, Mom, Dad and Baby E arrive and they are all so sweet! We started off with the familly portraits and I love the coordination of the outfits that mom chose. Together with my cocoa brown backdrop, the family images are just stunning! (Can you tell I’m obsessed with this whole session? Lol!)
Then we moved on the the cake smash part. This is the tricky part anytime I do a birthday cake smash session. I always tell parents from the begining, baby will either love the whole thing and make a fabulous mess, or they will hate it and cry! Baby E was actually in between. He started off catiously and then got more involved (with a little parent involvement, which always helps!) All in all, Baby E made a nice big mess and we got really adorable images!
