So you booked your newborn session with Yaffa Koff Photography! YAY!! Now what? This post is here to walk you through how to prepare for your newborn session!
Before we get into the practical, nitty-gritty of how to prep I want you to know that my number one goal for your baby’s session is for you to feel relaxed! I am all too familiar with the blur of emotions, hormones, sleepless nights and adjusting that comes with bringing a little one home from the hospital. And no matter how much you prepare or repack your hospital bag again, no one can prepare you for the whirlwind pace at which your life changes.
But when you arrive at my studio doorstep, I want you to feel a little haven where you can simply enjoy your precious baby. Snuggle them. Kiss their fingers and toes. Watch them sleep. Take a breather.
As a Silver Spring Newborn photographer, I will be there to guide you every step of the way. I specialize in documenting the first year of life, and I am well aware that the first few weeks are potentially the craziest!
So here are some ways how to prepare for your newborn session:
After booking, you will receive a prep guide that will walk you through the session. This is one of the reasons I recommend booking in your second trimester, so you have plenty of time to read over it and get familiar before the rush of baby’s arrival. The guide will walk you through what to wear, and the few things you need to bring:
- diapers
- wipes
- change of clothes
- pacifier
- bottle for feedings
And I also recommend a change of clothes for the parents too, because we know babies love to have blowouts at the most inopportune moments!! 😉
I also recommend making sure you have a water bottle for yourself on hand, and some snacks. Especially if you are breastfeeding. Newborn sessions can run long, because we take our time getting all the images you want that you will cherish for the years to come. So just pack yourself a little self-care bag with your fav snacks and drinks.
But most of the things you will need, I will have at the studio! The studio will be nice and warm for your baby’s optimal sleep environment. I have all the props, wraps and backdrops for our session. So you can sit back and enjoy watching your amazing little one be the star of the show.
But that’s all you have to do! I hope that helps explain how to prepare for your newborn session! You deserve to have the most meaningful moments in the studio while getting portraits done. After all, these are the good old days. Not only should you have these moments forever encapsulated in heirloom photography, but you should enjoy the process too.
